Description
Tech Coast Angels LA (now part of TCA Venture Group) is the Los Angeles chapter of one of the largest and most active angel investor networks in the United States. It operates as part of a broader group of 400+ accredited investor members spanning Southern California, including LA, Orange County, and Inland Empire, that invest capital, advice, and network support into early-stage companies.
Pre-Seed / Seed: Primary focus — most of TCA’s activity is in seed-stage rounds and early institutional financings.
Series A & Early Growth: Some participation in later rounds (especially bridges or extensions) depending on company progress and investor interest; angel participation typically transitions to follow-on investors.
Typical Investment Size: Individual TCA members write checks that collectively can range from ~$50K–$500K+ per company, and larger amounts via pooled chapter funds or syndicates.
Equity Taken:
• Tech Coast Angels LA does not publish a fixed equity percentage it always takes — like most angel groups, equity is negotiated per financing based on valuation, total round size, and investor mix (standard angel/seed practice).
• Founder expectations (industry norms): In angel/seed financings where angel networks participate, total investor dilution often falls in the ~10%–25% range of total company equity, with individual participants holding minority stakes proportional to their check sizes and valuation negotiations. (This range reflects common seed investor outcomes; TCA does not provide a published percentage target.)
• Because TCA LA can act as lead or co-lead on seed rounds, individual founder dilution to participating angels for a lead participant’s portion is often single-digit to low-double-digit percentages depending on valuation and capital raised.
Equity Structure: Investments are typically structured via priced preferred equity, SAFEs, or convertible notes depending on round structure and founder preference (standard early angel/seed practice).
Submission Method: Founders apply via Tech Coast Angels LA’s application portal (online) or may be invited through introductions from members or ecosystem partners.
Pitch Process: Companies that pass initial screening are invited to present to the angel membership and chapter funds for investment consideration.
